When they bite
Open March 1–May 31 and Aug. 1–Dec. 31 (closed Jan.–Feb. and June–July).
Where locally
The same reefs and wrecks that hold snapper. Triggers are bait thieves, so they're often caught while bottom fishing for other reef fish.
Gear basics
- Medium outfit, 20–40 lb line
- Small, strong circle hooks: their mouths are tiny
- Squid or cut bait
- Measure fork length carefully: 15" is easy to miss
Local tip: Use a smaller hook than you think. Triggers nibble baits off big hooks all day.
The bite and location notes are general angler know-how, not a fishing report.
