When they bite

Open year-round. Locally, kings are mostly a warm-water fish, so expect the best action from late spring into fall.

Where locally

Pier ends (Navarre, Pensacola Beach, Okaloosa and the PCB piers are known king spots), nearshore bait schools, and offshore structure.

Spots to try: Navarre Beach Fishing Pier, Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier, Okaloosa Island Pier (The Island Pier), Panama City Beach piers (M.B. Miller & Russell-Fields).

Gear basics

Local tip: Use a short wire leader and a treble stinger. Kings often bite the bait in half.

The bite and location notes are general angler know-how, not a fishing report.
