When they bite
Closed Oct. 15–Nov. 30 every year. That closure covers the classic fall run, when flounder head toward the passes.
Where locally
Sandy bottom next to structure: bridge pilings, docks, jetties and passes, plus the edges of grass flats.
Gear basics
- Light-to-medium spinning outfit
- Carolina rig with a live minnow or mud minnow, or a jig with a soft plastic
- Gig and light for night wading (in season)
- Set the hook slowly: flounder grab and hold
Local tip: Give a flounder a count of five before you set the hook.
The bite and location notes are general angler know-how, not a fishing report.
