When they bite
No closed season is listed. Locally, the spring cobia run along the beaches is a big deal for sight-casters and pier anglers.
Where locally
Along the beaches during the run (piers and towers), plus buoys, wrecks and anything floating.
Spots to try: Navarre Beach Fishing Pier, Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier, Okaloosa Island Pier (The Island Pier), Panama City Beach piers (M.B. Miller & Russell-Fields).
Gear basics
- Heavy spinning outfit with 30–50 lb braid
- Bucktail jigs or live eels and baitfish
- Heavy fluorocarbon leader
- A big net or gaff, and a plan for 36"
Local tip: That 2-per-boat cap is easy to forget with a full crew.
The bite and location notes are general angler know-how, not a fishing report.
